Ohnesorgs Erschießung und der gerichtliche Freispruch für den Täter tragen zur Ausbreitung und Radikalisierung der westdeutschen Studentenbewegung der 1960er-Jahre bei.
- Rassenunruhen in den USA
- Muhammad Ali verweigert den Kriegsdient in Vietnam.
- Die Besatzung der US-amerikanischen Weltraumkapsel „Apollo 1“ stirbt während eines Bodentests.
- Che Guevara wird von einem Feldwebel der bolivianischen Armee ohne Gerichtsverhandlung erschossen.
- In Enfield Town wird von Barclays der erste Geldautomat in Betrieb genommen.
- Die Beatles veröffentlichen "Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band".

Das war das Jahr 1941:
- Am 22. Juni 1941 marschierte die deutsche Wehrmacht in die Sowjetunion ein. Mit dem "Unternehmen Barbarossa" begann ein machtpolitisch, wirtschaftlich und rassenideologisch motivierter Vernichtungskrieg. zwischen Berlin und Moskau bestand.
- Am Samstagmorgen, dem 7. Dezember 1941, trifft eine japanische Kriegsflotte im amerikanischen Marinestützpunkt Pearl Harbor auf Hawaii ein. Mit Bomben und Torpedos greifen die Japaner die Amerikaner an. Mehr als 3.500 Amerikaner sterben oder werden verletzt.
- In den späten Abendstunden des 10. Mai 1941 forderte ein Kohlesäureausbruch in der Rubengrube im gläzischen Kunzendorf 186 Todesopfer. Es gab kaum eine Familie in der Umgebung, die nicht mindestens einen Angehörigen oder Freund zu betrauern hatte.
- Am 18./19. September treffen binnen 24 Stunden sechs Sonnenstürme der Stärke neun, also der höchsten Magnitude, auf die Erde.
- Nach 14-jährigen Bauarbeiten wird das Mount Rushmore National Memorial für vollendet erklärt.

- Ronald Reagan wird als 40. Präsident der USA vereidigt.
- Peter Sutcliffe gesteht im Verhör, der gesuchte Yorkshire Ripper zu sein. Der Serienmörder hat mindestens 13 Frauen getötet.
- Hochzeit von Prinz Charles und Lady Diana Spencer (Prinzessin Diana).
- MTV geht auf Sendung. Das erste Video ist Video Killed the Radio Star von The Buggles.

- Der UNO-Sicherheitsrat fordert Südafrika auf, die Rassentrennung zu beenden.
- Der israelische Geheimdienst Mossad ergreift Adolf Eichmann in Buenos Aires.
- Als erste Lebewesen kehren im Rahmen der sowjetischen Sputnik 5-Mission die tags zuvor in das Weltall geschossenen Hunde „Belka“ und „Strelka“ in ihrer Landekapsel wohlbehalten auf die Erde zurück.
- 52 Menschen kommen ums Leben, als ein in München-Riem gestartetes Passagierflugzeug aufgrund eines Motorausfalls auf eine Straßenbahn stürzt.

- Der erste deutsche Satellit namens Azur wird von der kalifornischen Vandenberg Air Force Base in eine Erdumlaufbahn gestartet. Er dient dem Einstieg in die bundesdeutsche Weltraumforschung.
- Der erste deutsche abendfüllende Zeichentrickfilm Die Konferenz der Tiere, basierend auf dem gleichnamigen Buch Erich Kästners, kommt in die bundesdeutschen Kinos.
